A quick sketchbook exercise, trying out different materials. I used a reference picture of a nest with eggs and used it to loosely base 3 drawings on.
I used:
Brush pens (watercolour), Arcyclic markers and colored pencil for the first one
Watercolour, gouache, paper cut, acrylic markers and colored pencil for the second one
Gelatos (but you can use any kind of pastel material), acrylic ink and a dip pen for the third one
I had no plan, I just picked up materials as I went along, trying out different marks and textures.

The top right one is my go-to method I think, it looks the most like my “usual” artwork, but trying out different things opens up new possibilities. I love the marks the dip pen gave me and the looseness of the watercolour is something I could use to alternate my more detailed work.
I hope this gives you inspiration to experiment with the materials you have, drawing the same thing 3 times with different materials is a great way to loosen up!
I so enjoyed this- thank you so much! The nests on your page look glorious. I am looking forward to playing with your techniques 🪺 💛
It's was lovely to see you drawing these Pauline 💙 I'm a big fan of experiments with different materials 😊 My favourite was the first one, where you used my 'comfort zone' materials 🥰
