November Vlog - Making spell books, painting owls and upcycling art
Monthly update from my art studio
Hello hello,
Here in the Netherlands, it is unusually warm for this time of year. The colours are fantastic, but it sometimes feels strange to go outside without a coat. Over the past month, I have been filming little snippets of where I was wandering and what inspired me to draw and make a little vlog for you.
In the studio:
Upcycling art; it’s not really recycling; it's more drawings and ideas from sketchbooks that were somewhere in a dark drawer and are now given new life. I don't normally participate in challenges, but the Peachtober and Nestober challenges last month had all sorts of prompts that fitted in with what I was planning to make anyway, so I made a little schedule for myself to make things IF I felt like it (emphasis on IF). And lo and behold, out came a whole bunch of artworks! Some were made with forgotten drawings that I combined with new elements, and others from scratch.
A selection of the works I created:
As some of you already know, I also share my studio space with my daughter. Since she is obsessed with witchcraft and hocus pocus, I found an old book in a local street library that we turned into a spell book together. She is now slowly filling it with potion recipes and spells (you can watch a glimpse of us making the book in the vlog:).
In our art club
It was a month full of spooky witchy themes because I love it. We drew witches familiars in our monthly drawing session; the fluffy and slightly grumpy cat was definitely my favourite.
Helen C Stark and I co-hosted a drawing session where we drew pictures from both our hometowns and discussed our connection with the artist Jan Wijnants.

Things I Loved
Baking pumpkin brownies, this recipe worked out great
Reading in bed with my kid. We read The Girl Who Drank The Moon last month, and it was the best; a story full of wonder, but also a tiny dragon who thinks he’s a Simply Enormous Dragon but is in reality pocket-size.
Watch Beatrix Potter ballet on Netflix
Art loved all of Taryn Knights entries to #peachtober
Lastly, I have a question for you. If you’re thinking of becoming a (paid) subscriber, or already are one what content would you like to see most? Leave a suggestion in the comments, I’d love to hear what content you’re interested in!
I’m off to paint all of the beautiful trees that are changing colour; thanks so much for reading this, and I wish you a creative November!
Your vlogs are so soothing, thank you! I'm enjoying watching them so much.
Such a beautiful vlog Pauline ✨
