Hi everyone,
Join RAJ KAUR and me for a cosy, creative session on Sunday, 17th of May, as we where we’ll paint nature portraits together!
You might know Frida Kahlo’s beautiful self-portraits, often surrounded by flowers and plants. In this session, we’ll create our own floral/plant portraits. You can paint a self-portrait or use one of the reference photos we shared.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, and you don’t need special supplies. This is a chance to set aside time for creativity, connection, and intention.

What are we drawing?
Nature portraits! We’ll start by sharing inspiration. As we paint, we’ll chat about painting, flowers, and creativity.
You’re welcome to join the conversation in the chat, or if you prefer, just listen and turn off your camera and microphone.
At the end, we’ll have a chance to share our work, but that’s optional. This session is about having fun and relaxing.
If you can’t attend the session, a replay will be posted as soon as possible (usually within 48 hours).
Any material you like! I think I’m going to use a bit of gouache and coloured pencils.

Some Inspiration For The Session
Here are a few examples of how you might want to approach the portraits. I’ve picked out a few different styles/artists to show that you can do them as loose or as detailed as you like.
I’ve included a few of my own illustrations below. I don’t often draw portraits, and certainly when it comes to a self-portrait, I’d rather hide myself than draw myself in full :)
Another lovely solution is to draw the person as a silhouette and let the flowers take centre stage.
Frida Kahlo of course, I’m forever in awe of her work. So strong, so confrontational.
I absolutely love these portraits by Jennifer Orkin Lewis. I think they’re done in loose gouache paints, and they’re just so colourful and joyful. It also shows that you don’t have to do a portrait in immense detail to make it striking.
