Hi everyone,
For me, Spring is the perfect moment to have a conversation with myself. The promise of spring also comes with the promise of art; I am inspired by flower bulbs rising, colours appearing, and the light slowly changing.
That, in turn, raises questions: What do I think of my art at this moment? Am I developing in the right direction, or are there other things that need attention?
Some things were actually already present, but they needed space and the right circumstances to blossom.
So, in a way, art is the same as nature for me. If the right conditions are present (light/colour/nutrients aka materials, etc.), then it can thrive.
In our upcoming drawing session, we will look at anything that might be underground, or perhaps sleeping, and also might be small but could be of great use. For instance, did you know that ladybugs hibernate and huddle together? And this session is extra special because I am hosting it together with Emma Carpendale ! Be sure to check out her substack The Creative Flock, a supportive space for artists, illustrators, creatives and dreamers. To me, she has a very poetic approach to art and inspires me to look at nature gently, noticing all the tiny details.

What are we drawing?
We dive under the surface and see what nature is like in hibernation or under the ground.
We will do a warmup for 5 minutes and then we’ll draw 3 images for 20 minutes
If you can’t make it to the session, a replay will be posted as soon as possible (usually within 24 hrs).
You can use anything you like, this session is all about exploring what fits your needs at this moment
Simplify shapes and draw the parts you like best
