Mushroom season is not over yet, and thankfully so! I found some more amazing specimens last weekend, and so I thought it would be fun to paint with you in real time.

In this video, I show you how I paint an Orange Birch Bolete, focusing on creating depth and adding detail. I decided to make the fern less detailed because I felt it wasn’t necessary to make it as intricate; the spotlight is for the mushroom.

Mushrooms are ideal subjects to practise painting depth, as they do not have a very complicated shape but are very dimensional and often contain beautiful textures.
