Our next drawing session: Familiars, Witches companions
Join us for a drawing session on Thurs 24th of Oct 20:00 (8 PM) CEST
Hi everyone,
When I visited the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in August with my family, I stumbled upon this wonderful artwork by illustrator Mark Hearld. I immediately thought, “This would be a great topic for a drawing session.” So here we are!
What is a witch’s familiar, you ask?
”In European folklore of the medieval and early modern periods, familiars (strictly familiar spirits, as "familiar" also meant just "close friend" or companion, and may be seen in the scientific name for dog, Canis familiaris) were believed to be supernatural entities, interdimensional beings, or spiritual guardians that would protect or assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic, divination, and spiritual insight.” (I could say it myself but Wikipedia says it so brilliantly).

When is the session?
🧙♀️🦇🌙🐈⬛ Thurs 24th of October at 20:00 (8 PM) CEST Amsterdam Time. Sign up below via Luma or use the Zoom link.
What are we drawing?
Familiars; Witches’ companions think cats, frogs, ravens, owls, etc. If you’re up to it, you can make them match your personality with tips and tricks I’ll share in the session.
Timing
We’ll do a few quick warmup drawings and some longer ones
Replay
If you can’t make it to the session, a replay will be posted as soon as possible (usually within 24 hrs).
Materials
I’m thinking of using (coloured) ink and pencils, but I’m not sure yet. Anything goes, use the materials you like best at the moment or challenge yourself by using something you rarely use. If you’re daunted by all of the materials, try to narrow them down by only using 3 materials or 3 colours.
If you’re really into drawing familiars,
