While on my trip to the South of France a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the most beautiful botanical garden. It was a hidden gem very close to the city of Menton. Lush gardens surrounded this beautiful villa, and I came across a beautiful abutilon while exploring. It instantly made me remember the abutilons my mother had as houseplants when we grew up. I always imagined they were little lanterns or fairy hats.
I decided to take some time to observe them really well and sketch them in my sketchbook. Drawing things that have fond memories helps to relax, and because you know them well, you can draw them with more ease.
In this video, I’ll guide you through my painting process step by step, giving tips about observing and painting along the way.
