Autumn is a great time for crafting, and I always look forward to it. My favourite thing to do is to meet up with someone, enjoy a cup of tea, and create something nice together. Of course, I also enjoy crafting with my daughter, Alba.
Feeling a bit lost on where to start your autumn crafting journey? Don't worry, I've got some simple and fun ideas for you:
Painting leaves
Find some leaves outside, dry them between an old book or newspaper for a few days, and paint them. I used acrylics and pencil for the large leaf on the left and a white posca pen for the ones on the right.
Carving pumpkins
Here are the results from last year, which my daughter and a friend helped me create:
Paint pumpkins
Last year, I visited a pumpkin farm, selected some nice pumpkins, and spent an afternoon decorating them. I painted some of them and adorned one with dried flowers. If you're interested in learning about my process, you can watch the videos on painting pumpkins and drying flowers below.
Christmas decorations
With just some cardboard (acrylic) paint and some string, you can easily make your very own Christmas decorations. You can make it as detailed or as simple as you like. I show you how in this video:
Making fabric mushrooms:
I haven’t done this (yet), but I'm definitely going to make them one day to decorate my studio. Tiny Craft World shows how to make them here
Making Paper Mushrooms
Have you noticed yet I’m really into the mushroom theme? :)
I stumbled upon this post by Sibster on Instagram; they make it look really easy.
Stuff I have on my todo list for this season:
Embroidering, I came across this book in a YouTube video by
and immediately felt the need to start a huge embroidery project - Did you know that she holds a monthly craft session at her Patreon? I might join in :)Making clothing or pillows out of the fabric collection I designed for Joann Stores (they’re now just collecting dust, zo zonde!)
Crochet - hats, mittens, scarves, the works
Finish our diy dollhouse by painting the furniture
I promised my kid we would turn an old book into a hocus pocus spellbook
Wreath making. I plan to make one out of felt decorations so I can reuse it every year.
And remember, if you decide to skip the crafts and go straight for the hot chocolate, that’s perfectly okay too:-)
Painting leaves! Why have I never seen this or thought of this before. So beautiful. I'd love to try this. Thank you, Pauline
