I’m usually the person who plans their drawings meticulously, but lately I’ve been drawing and letting the composition appear on paper.
With all that is going on in the world, I have a yearning for gentleness lately, drawing meditavely, without judgement. When bad things happen around me, I always get a counter-response and start paying extra attention to people, being nicer, and also being nicer to myself.
And when my head is full, I want to relax. Drawing for me is relaxation. However, planning a drawing and then getting a different result than expected can also be limiting and less satisfying.
So the other day, I just started. With no plan, no goal, I just started drawing. You can start drawing or painting, and see where your composition takes you. And it was SO FREEING.
Letting your hands lead and your mind get into a kind of flow mindset is extremely relaxing, and I must say I was surprised by the result. Because apparently these lines were already in my head. And it came as a drawing, like a thread unwinding, on paper.

The timelapse you see here shows my process during a Summer Wildflower drawing session , which I hosted with
. These are very quick exercises, and I painted without a preconceived plan. Maybe they’re just visual notes. Maybe it's an entry point for later, larger paintings. But it doesn't have to be anything else either.
If you also want to relax and maybe even discover the meditative side of drawing and painting, join our art club, The Creative Cocoon. We recently did a meditative drawing session, co-hosted by
